Can the remains of destruction be given new life while carrying the memory of a place?

Midden transforms material recovered from Glasgow’s damaged and demolished buildings into useful domestic objects. Rather than disappearing into landfill, fragments of the building are introduced into products, giving waste a new purpose. Each piece carries a source postcode and individual number, connecting it to the building it came from. Part product collection and part archive, Midden records Glasgow’s changing built environment through objects made to be used.

The first collection begins in Glasgow, but perhaps every place could discover its own Midden.

This is an ongoing prototype. Most ceramic pieces were made with material from 250 St Vincent Street, while other sites are shown to explore how the system could grow in the future.
